The main sport in Durham is probably Cricket due to the neighbouring County Durham Cricket team which is a successful top flight county team. The main football team in the area is the Durham City AFC which plays in the Northern Premier League Division and were founded back in 1918. The ground is also known as the New Ferens Park and can be found on the outskirts of the city. It is considered as a good quality ground compared to its predecessors.

Durham City rugby Club is one of the oldest clubs in the UK and was established back in the year 1872. It plays its main games at Green Lane.
